Promoting biodiversity: tall trees and flowering plants
In April 2024, the Habitat Tree project was launched for the first time: interested farmers were able to apply to VOG for free tall trees for their farm or orchard. The selected species – including manna ash, pedunculate oak, hop hornbeam, sessile oak and cornelian cherry – were chosen in cooperation with the Advisory Service and help to enhance biodiversity as well as the landscape.
The biodiversity project for new orchards was implemented for the second time. Farmers received free seed mixtures of flowering plants, suitable for both integrated and organic farming. The diverse mix provides valuable habitat for wild bees and other beneficial insects.
